Overthinking Everything? Here’s What May Really Be Going On
Have you ever found yourself replaying the same conversation over and over?
Or lying in bed at night, mentally sorting through what you should have said, could have done differently, or what might go wrong tomorrow?
You’re not alone. Overthinking is something I see in nearly every woman I work with — especially those who’ve walked through trauma, anxiety, or messy, complicated relationships.
The good news?
You’re not broken.
Your brain is simply doing its best to protect you.
Why Your Brain Won’t Stop Spinning
Your brain is wired for survival. So when you’ve lived through pain, fear, or emotional chaos, your nervous system can get stuck in patterns of hyper-vigilance — always scanning for what could go wrong.
We call this the fight, flight, freeze, or fawn response. It’s God-designed and protective…
but when it goes unchecked, it often looks like:
Mentally preparing for every possible worst-case scenario
Replaying old wounds
Overanalyzing every decision
Trying to think your way into feeling safe
Sound familiar?
Here’s the thing: you can’t think your way out of fear.
But you can begin to gently retrain your thoughts — and invite peace back in.
One Powerful First Step: Awareness
I believe the first step toward healing is simple — but often overlooked:
🧠 Become aware of your thought patterns.
Most of us don’t notice we’re stuck swirling until we’re already deep in it. Heart racing. Shallow breathing. Caught in a loop of mental chaos.
But the moment you become aware of the spiral, everything starts to shift.
Try this:
The next time you feel the mental swirl begin, pause and name it:
“Oh, there’s that ‘everything’s going to fall apart’ story again.”
“There’s the ‘I always mess things up’ spiral.”
“That’s the ‘I’m the bad guy’ voice showing up again.”
When you give your thoughts a name, you create distance between you and them.
And from that place of distance, you can invite truth in.
There's More to Overthinking — And You’re Invited
The mental noise doesn’t go away overnight.
But the peace Jesus promised? It’s real. And it’s possible — one thought at a time.
If this message speaks to you, here’s video that goes deeper into this process — and shows you three practical, biblically grounded steps to stop the spiral and renew your mind.
I pray it gives you hope, language, and a little more space to breathe.
